The Academy
A dream becomes reality and a pillar of our community is born. Moving to Greencastle in 2022 to start my family I told my wife I would make a gym here someday. 4 years later, an incubation period at the Putnam County YMCA and we are opening our doors officially on “The Square” in November 2026.
Greencastle Jiu Jitsu was founded on a simple belief: that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, taught correctly, changes people. Not just on the mat — but in how they carry themselves, solve problems, and handle pressure.
We are a serious training environment for adults and kids at every level. From your first class to competition prep, the focus is always the same: technique, adaptation, understanding and dedication to becoming better each day.
Our lineage traces directly through the Gracie family tree. We teach the art as it was meant to be taught — with patience, precision, and respect for the fundamentals.
Technique First
We don't reward athleticism over skill. Good technique works at any size, any age, any level.

Ego has no place on the mat. We train hard, tap often, and learn from every roll.

Owner Alexander Eckert
Brown Belt 10 years experience
Alex has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 10 years and has competed at the regional and national level. He trained under Warren Stout of StoutPGH Team Renzo Gracie. Warren is a 4th degree black belt under Renzo Gracie, John Danaher and Shawn Williams. Alex received his Brown Belt in 2025 from Tanner Hall. We are proud to merge Renzo and Daniel Gracie's linage through our affiliation with Team Cohi Daniel Gracie Michigan. Alex founded Greencastle Jiu Jitsu to bring serious, lineage-backed BJJ instruction to the community.

Black Belt
Jacob is a black belt with over 20 years of experience. He is a former MMA fighter who trained in Albuquerque New Mexico under the legendary Jackson Wink MMA. He is also gym owner and instructor at multiple jiu jitsu gyms in the Indianapolis area. Greencastle Jiu Jitsu is extremely fortunate to have Jacob guest spot for us.
